The Autopen Presidency
According to House Oversight Chair Rep. James Comer, a storm is brewing in Washington.
His committee is now deep into an investigation probing whether President Joe Biden personally authorized dozens of executive orders — or whether those orders were pushed through by senior staff using an autopen machine, while Biden himself was struggling with cognitive decline.
“If they say something that’s not true, that’s a felony,” Comer warned this week, hinting at possible perjury traps for anyone covering up Biden’s mental condition or the use of the autopen without direct approval.
The scandal is gaining public momentum, particularly after Trump posted this on Truth Social:
Starting at the beginning, the autopen is a mechanical device that replicates a person’s signature.
It has been used sporadically by presidents to sign ceremonial letters or non-urgent documents — but never as a stand-in for presidential authority on executive orders. At least, not until now.
If senior staffers used the autopen to push through major policy changes — including pandemic mandates, immigration reversals, and student loan policies — without the President’s explicit consent, we’re not just looking at an ethics breach. We’re talking about a constitutional crisis.
Who’s Under the Microscope?
According to insiders, four senior Biden staffers and his personal physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, are being asked to testify voluntarily. If they refuse, subpoenas are ready to drop.
The committee is particularly interested in:
- Ron Klain, former White House Chief of Staff
- Hunter Biden, whose proximity to White House decision-making has long raised eyebrows
- Jill Biden, who may have acted as gatekeeper during critical moments
- Dr. Kevin O’Connor, who allegedly downplayed or hid signs of Biden’s mental decline
What’s at Stake?
If executive orders were indeed signed via autopen without Biden’s full knowledge or consent, every one of those orders could be legally invalid.
That includes decisions with massive national impact — border policy, COVID mandates, and environmental regulations among them.
Who was really in wielding power in the West Wing? It’s hard to believe it was Biden, a man who “was getting lost in his own closet” so claims Senator Josh Hawley in a recent Fox News interview.
